Syracuse Men's Basketball Game Recaps:
SU-GEORGETOWN GAME RECAP FEBRUARY 8, 2012
Syracuse topped Georgetown 64-61 at the Carrier Dome. Kris Joseph led the Orange with 29 points. Otto Porter paced the Hoyas with 14. Here are some game day nuggets.

-Syracuse and Georgetown. North Carolina and Duke. No snow in mid-February. Sure.

-Otto the Orange. Otto the Porter.

-Syracuse leads the all-time series 47-39.

-Anyone seen a Syracuse defensive rebound?

-Georgetown's grey shoes with fluorescent laces. Not a pretty combination.

-Welcome back Lawrence Moten and Derrick Coleman.

-You and 30,000 friends.

-An out-of-bounds play to Fab Melo on the perimeter? Really? Who drew that one up?

-Big shot Joseph.

-Who knows how far behind Syracuse would be without Fab Melo.

-Tough as nails Hoyas.

-Syracuse should not be passing it three times and settling on a 3-point shot.

-Jim Boeheim out of timeouts this season=cash money.

-Hollis Thompson Road.

-31-27 Hoyas at the break. Slugfest. Syracuse apparently is going to settle for outside shots and not go inside. It will lose if that is the case. Unless shots start magically falling.

-SU going to the press immediately in the second half. And that's why the bench boss is in the Hall of Fame.

-Another Big East game where the officials have no clue what's a foul.

-Get ready, piece of wire.

-Alley-Fab.

-Anyone seen C.J. Fair?

-The really Loud House.

-This is like a 1-0 baseball game. And you should be ok with that.

-Fast break. Scoop rushes up the floor and doesn't leave Joseph with enough room to score. Could be a big play in the game.

-Fab Melo being somewhat contained by tough Hoyas defense.

-Dome drama.

-This freshman class of Georgetown is one tough group.

-Fab Monster.

-Scoop, make sure your teammates are looking before you rifle the ball at their heads.

-One minute you think Brandon Triche is a stud player on this team and a difference maker, and the next he isn't a factor vs. Georgetown. Puzzling.

-The Hoyas have controlled the tempo from the opening tip.

-Stop trying to be a hero, Dion Waiters.

-Awful last possession by Syracuse. Terrible execution. Waiters has to want the last shot. And a lazy pass by Scoop.

-55 all. Overtime. Syracuse. Georgetown. Sure.

-Talk about competitive.

-C.J. Fair may be having a bad game, but the kid never stops believing that he can turn it around. He keeps fighting. And what a tip-in early in overtime.

-Just give Big East Defensive Player of the Year to Fab Melo. My goodness what an effort.

-Kris Joseph's biggest shot, arguably, in an SU uniform.

-This game was exhausting to watch. Imagine the players.

-880 wins, Jim Boeheim. Third all-time. Way to go.

-Syracuse improves to 24-1 and hosts Connecticut on Saturday.

-Georgetown falls to 18-5 and hosts St. John's on Sunday.
SU-ST JOHNS GAME RECAP FEBRUARY 4, 2012
Syracuse topped St. John's 95-70 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Dion Waiters, C.J. Fair and Fab Melo led the Orange with 14 points. D'Angelo Harrison paced the Red Storm with 23. Here are some game day nuggets.

-Welcome back, Fab Melo.

-Early bricks by the Orange. Syracuse could have done the reconstruction on MSG.

-St. John's isn't a good enough team to pull away. Man do they make awful decisions.

-Nice ball handling by MCW.

-Fab Melo looks like he never left on defense. On offense, he is gradually getting back.

-And now the Orange has arrived.

-When Syracuse plays lock-down defense, runs in transition and rebounds, all as a team, they are the best team in America. The only other team that can say the same thing when all of those are accomplished is Kentucky.

-Orange starts the second half on a 9-0 run and 15-0 run going back to late in the first half.

-MCW back on the highway. What a jam.

-You too, Mr. Waiters.

-Flop Melo.

-Another Orange takeover in NYC.

-Hard to beat Syracuse to begin with, but even harder when you play seven kids and only three show up.

-You wonder what Jim Boeheim will complain about after this one.

-With Fab Melo back, the Syracuse offensive flow is also much better. You can screen around him, set more high picks and play on the wings without getting clogged.

-No hands Southerland.

-Dean Smith and Jim Boeheim share #879.

-Ninth straight regular season win at the Garden for the Orange.

-Syracuse improves to 23-1 and hosts Georgetown on Wednesday.

-St. John's falls to 10-13 and hosts Cincinnati on Wednesday.
SU-WEST VIRGINIA GAME RECAP JANUARY 28, 2012
Syracuse topped West Virginia 63-61 at the Carrier Dome. Brandon Triche led the Orange with 18 points. Kevin Jones paced the Mountaineers with 20. Here are some game day nuggets:

-These Syracuse basketball games have really become a spectacle.

-Welcome, new Otto the Orange. You look much cleaner. Nice to see that the Syracuse athletic department could find some money to invest in a new mascot.

-Fab Melo in some dapper dress clothes on the bench as he works through academic issues.

-Way to go on the national anthem, Chris Taylor.

-Merhaba, Deniz Kilidi.

-"U.S.A. U.S.A."
-Syracuse students yelling at Turkey's Deniz Kilidi while shooting free throws early in the first half. Too bad the SU students could never come close to what Kilidi is doing; speak two languages, learn a new culture in a new country and be a successful Division One basketball player. Half of those kids will be lucky to pull a 2.0 just going to school.

-Syracuse had better guard people in a hurry. Especially Kevin Jones.

-What can Aaron Brown do for you?

-Dunking Dion.

-Sneaker companies sure make some wild shoes these days.

-A Brazilian flag hangs from the rafters in support of Fab Melo.

-Syracuse is settling for way too many outside shots. They need to attack the middle.

-Tic-Tac-Triche.

-Anyone seen defense at the top of the key from Syracuse?

-WVU getting all the big boards.

-C.J. Fair keeps every ball alive.

-Orange up 28-24 at the half. Who knows how?

-Triche the terrorizer.

-No Tim Higgins. No Jim Burr. No snow. Good day.

-Baye Moussa Pick and Rolla.

-Welcome back, loud house.

-Syracuse is taking better shots closer to the rim in the second half.

-It's gotten to the point where players can elbow and hug the opposition while playing defense.

-When the Orange needs Brandon Triche, he is always there.

-The intensity meter is quite high in this one.

-WVU plays defense, rebounds and hits free throws. You can win a bunch of ball games doing those things.

-Three missed calls in the final seconds. Brandon Triche fouled Darryl Bryant on a 3-pointer, Baye Keita with a clear goaltend and Kris Joseph didn't hit that ball out of bounds.

-Kevin Jones misses a 3-pointer to end the game. Great defense by SU there.

-Now that is a rugged, tough, Big East win for the home team.

-Syracuse improves to 22-1 and visits St. John's on Saturday.

-West Virginia falls to 15-7 and hosts Pittsburgh on Monday.
Pictures taken by staff photographer Rocco Carbone.
SU-CINCINNATI GAME RECAP JANUARY 23, 2012
Syracuse topped Cincinnati 60-53 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Kris Joseph led the Orange with 17 points. Cashmere Wright paced the Bearcats with 17. Here are some game day nuggets:

-Game two without Fab Melo. Rakeem Christmas gets the start. Kris Joseph moves down to the four and C.J. Fair gets a start at the three spot.

-Cincinnati just hit a 3-pointer from Lexington.

-Yancy Gates should touch the ball on every possession in this one.

-Anyone seen Dion Waiters?

-From Tim Higgins to Jim Burr. My goodness, when does it end?

-Cincinnati just hit a 3-pointer from Canton.

-Syracuse is much more calm on offense as opposed to the craziness against Notre Dame.

-What is this, tackle football?

-Cincinnati is such a streaky shooting team. They could have run away if it stayed hot.

-Anyone seen Dion Dixon?

-Nice hustle, James Southerland.

-Big heads are wearing out their welcome, but you have to give it to the Cincinnati students for the Hall of Famer Barry Larkin big head and Mr. Herbert Family Guy big head. Classic stuff.

-Good learning game for Dion Waiters. Waiters can't just go one-on-one all the time and take bad shots and expect to play.

-Two Scoops of clutch shots, please.

-Anyone seen Justin Jackson?

-Win number 877 for Jim Boeheim, passing Adolph Rupp for sole possession of fourth place on the Division One all-time wins list.

-It is so huge having Brandon Triche in games like these. His big body offset so much of Cincinnati's physical play.

-Syracuse won this game by rebounding as a team, fighting on every possession, playing solid defense and staying calm on offense in the early stages.

-Syracuse improves to 21-1 and hosts West Virginia on Saturday.

-Cincinnati falls to 15-6 and visits Rutgers on Saturday.
SU-NOTRE DAME GAME RECAP JANUARY 21, 2012
Notre Dame topped Syracuse 67-58 at The Joyce Center in South Bend, Indiana. Jack Cooley led the Irish with 17 points. James Southerland paced the Orange with 15. Here are some game day nuggets:

*Fab Melo not on the road trip due to an academic issue. Mookie Jones leaves the team due to personal reasons. Let’s see how the team responds.

*Not a good start for the Orange. Talk about looking lost.

*Paddle ball Joseph.

*ND rising to the occasion. They love playing #1. Mike Brey outlining the game plan to a tee. Get Syracuse into a halfcourt game and hit open 3-pointers.

*Anyone seen the Orange offense?

*Baye Moussa Keita Needsta Take a Charga.

*Captain Jack Cooley.

*Does Tim Higgins stalk the Syracuse program?

*There is a significant drop-off from Fab Melo to Baye Keita in all phases of basketball.

*Eric Atkins Diet.

*Amazingly enough, Syracuse only had nine game turnovers.

*Syracuse got outrebounded 37-24, was incredibly outhustled and couldn’t make a shot consistently in this game. They were also without their starting center who blocks shots and takes charges in the 2-3 zone. When you add those things up, you lose.

*Jerian Grant will be talking smack to younger brother and Syracuse recruit Jerami Grant. That you can guarantee.

*Syracuse fans need to take a chill pill. It is one game. This team wasn’t going to go unbeaten anyway. The important thing is for the Orange to get a #1 seed for the NCAA Tournament.

*Notre Dame is not an NCAA Tournament team, so this is without a doubt their signature win and the game they can remember in 2011-2012. Good for them.

*Notre Dame improves to 12-8 and visits Seton Hall on Wednesday.

*Syracuse falls to 20-1 and visits Cincinnati on Monday.
SU-PITTSBURGH GAME RECAP JANUARY 16, 2012
Syracuse topped Pittsburgh 71-63 at the Carrier Dome. Dion Waiters led the Orange with 16 points. Ashton Gibbs, Cameron Wright and Lamar Patterson paced the Panthers with 10 points each. Here are some game day nuggets.

-And here's to you, Nasir Robinson, the Panthers turn their six-game losing streak to you.

-The "I Bleed Orange" commercial is pretty good.

-Joseph's gym.

-Ashton Gibbs needs help tonight if the Panthers are to win this one.

-Bodying Brandon? Good luck.

-Don't stop your dribble on the far outside, James Southerland.

-Durand Durand Johnson.

-Nothing like a little C.J. Fair to get the game back in control.

-Looks like Otto the Orange went in for a half-assed dry cleaning.

-Isaiah In-Epps.

-C.J. Fair throwing it down. What a jam.

-Alley-Scoop.

-Lots of fouls inside. Not one called against Pittsburgh. Remarkable.

-35-26 Syracuse at the half. Feels like the Orange is up 20.

-Welcome back, Art Monk.

-Jamie Dixon is about to lose it.

-How can the officials call a reach-in and not call blatant elbows down low?

-3-point bricks from the Orange.

-Panthers tightening up the defense.

-Anyone seen Dion Waiters?

-And with that, a 3-ball from Waiters.

-You look back at the first half and think about how Syracuse didn't pull away from Pitt. And now it's a four point game with 8:34 to play. Pittsburgh just never gives SU an easy one.

-Kris Joseph 3-pointer. Kris Joseph steal. Dion Waiters 3-pointer. SU run. Seems natural at this point.

-MCW in the shop for an oil change.

-Jim Boeheim has way too much confidence in Scoop Jardine late in this game.

-Fab Melo is clearly not ready for the NBA. Talk about getting pushed around.

-Attendance: 24,826

-Benchwarmer Brandon.

-Hard fought second half. Good for the Orange to go through that.

-SU sets the school record for wins to start a season with 20.

-Jim Boeheim ties Adolph Rupp for 4th in all-time wins.

-Seven straight losses for Pitt.

-Syracuse improves to 20-0 and visits Notre Dame on Saturday.

-Pittsburgh falls to 11-8 and hosts Louisville on Saturday.
Pictures taken by staff photographer John Viggiano.
SU-PROVIDENCE GAME RECAP JANUARY 14, 2012
Syracuse topped Providence 78-55 at the Carrier Dome. Kris Joseph led the Orange with 13 points. Kadeem Batts paced the Friars with 13. Here are some game day nuggets.

-Florida State pounds North Carolina. Kentucky barely beats Tennessee. Kansas State loses at Oklahoma. Let's see what the Orange does.

-Maurice Grant one wish. To beat Syracuse.

-Superman Fair.

-Bricklaying Orange.

-Sloooooow Friars.

-Providence standout Vincent Council not in this one due to academic issues.

-Baye Moussa Usea the Glassa.

-Welcome back Orange basketball alumni. Happy 25th anniversary, 1986-87 Orange, for your trip to the Final Four. And they still hate Keith Smart.

-Nice footwork by Rakeem Christmas.

-Waiters' Wonderland.

-Providence could use a prayer from God Shammgod in this one.

-Anyone seen Gerard Coleman?

-Another monster defensive effort from Syracuse. Providence scores just 21 first half points.

-Back-to-back buzzer-beaters to end the first half for Scoop Jardine.

-Bryce Cotton ball.

-There is an actual Friar costume in attendance.

-Melo the Monster.

-Anyone seen Bryce Cotton?

-If you blink an eye this year, you miss a Syracuse lead that goes up 20.

-MCW putting on some miles.

-This one has gotten so out of control that Mookie Jones wants into the ballgame.

-Attendance: 23,311.

-Anyone seen a made 3-pointer?

-Thanks for stopping by, Providence.

-Syracuse improves to 19-0 and hosts Pittsburgh on Monday.

-Providence falls to 12-7 and hosts Marquette Saturday.
SU-VILLANOVA GAME RECAP JANUARY 11, 2012
Syracuse topped Villanova 79-66 in Philadelphia, PA. Dion Waiters led the Orange with 20 points. JayVaughn Pinkston, Dominic Cheek and Mouphtaou Yarou paced the Wildcats with 12 points each. Here are some game day nuggets:

*Motown Philly back again.

*Orange galore in the stands. This is most definitely (Thanks, Jonny Flynn) not a home game for Villanova.

*This is one of the worst Villanova teams in recent memory. Rebuilding might not even be the word.

*The one element that is missing from James Southerland’s game is creating his own shot. The beauty of that? He doesn’t have to. If he rebounds, plays good zone defense and other people create his shot for him, Southerland is fine on this type of basketball team.

*The bank is open for Scoop Jardine.

*Nice half for the Orange.

*Anyone seen Maalik Wayns?

*Nova comes back. 52-41. And Scoop Jardine’s three points and two assists push the team to score nine straight and re-gain control of the game. Big time stuff.

*The Wildcats are working on an extension of the Ben Franklin Bridge with all of these bricks.

*Anyone seen Kris Joseph? Oh wait, it doesn’t matter.

*If Dominic Cheek and Mouphtaou Yarou weren’t go-go-guys, Villanova would actually have a much better club. But they are counted on to do too much for Jay Wright. When you have down years, this is what happens.

*C.J. Fair never makes a bad decision.

*More of a down year, Pittsburgh or Villanova?

*Your team may be down, Jay Wright, but your suits are still the best in the country.

*A poor shooting night for Syracuse and they win by 13.

*Syracuse improves to 18-0 and hosts Providence on Saturday.

*Villanova falls to 8-9 and visits Cincinnati on Saturday.
SU-MARQUETTE GAME RECAP JANUARY 7, 2012
Syracuse topped Marquette 73-66 at the Carrier Dome. Kris Joseph paced the Orange with 17 points. Darius Johnson-Odom led the Golden Eagles with 19. Here are some game day nuggets:

-New England Jae Crowder. Marquette's favorite soup.

-The Big East has produced six national champions in men's basketball. 1984 Georgetown, 1985 Villanova, 1999 Connecticut, 2003 Syracuse, 2004 Connecticut and 2011Connecticut.

-Brandon Triche stays hot.

-There is a lot of perimeter contact out there not being called.

-Just under 16 minutes first half. Syracuse has a possession where, in order, Kris Joseph is fouled on a jump shot, C.J. Fair is fouled off a rebound and then fouled again on a scoring attempt. This followed a possession where Fair was fouled on a scoring play.

-Baye Moussa Returna.

-Stealin' Orange.

-The Syracuse 2-3 zone isn't allowing the Marquette guards to get anywhere near the top of the key and beyond. The Golden Eagles have to figure something out.

-"My God, this is the number one team in the country and we still get stuck with Timmy Higgins." "WTF."
-Text message during the first half from Michael Backus of the Oswego Weeklies.

-Vander you're my boy, Blue.

-Hard to believe that it has been almost a decade gone by since the 2003 national champion Syracuse team roamed this place.

-Charging Marquette. Talk about running over defenders.

-It is simply remarkable how unselfish this Syracuse team is.

-A jolt from Joseph.

-Marquette all of a sudden forgot how to shoot free throws.

-Brandon Triche is dominating the game, so he gives Dion Waiters a bucket on the break after a turnover. Don't you love it?

-People still get so excited over Kiss Cam.

-There is a girl drinking beer from a straw at this game. True story.

-Good Scoop. Bad Scoop. Average Scoop. Bad Scoop. Good Scoop. Bad Scoop.

-And the brutality continues.

-And Tim Higgins still tries to make it up the floor.

-Anyone seen Scoop Jardine?

-Marquette is making a game out of it now thanks to easy baskets inside.

-Where are the SU guards exactly passing the basketball?

-Todd Mayonnaise.

-Big basket Fair.

-Jim Boeheim and Scoop Jardine really talking on the Syracuse bench. Scoop just hasn't gotten it going all day long.

-Flagrant Fab.

-Speed Demon Dion.

-MCW parked for now.

-Dion Waiters blocks a 3-pointer and gets the lay-up at the other end. What an athlete.

-Alley-Melo.

-Over the back? Nah.

-Security guards protecting the court. Hopefully no one will rush the floor for the #1 team in America winning.

-Hard fought game. Syracuse's best win this year considering how much they had to earn it.

-Syracuse improves to 17-0 and visits Villanova Wednesday.

-Marquette falls to 12-4 and hosts St. John's Wednesday.
Pictures taken by staff photographer Rocco Carbone.
SU-PROVIDENCE GAME RECAP JANUARY 4, 2012
Syracuse topped Providence 87-73 in Providence, Rhode Island. Brandon Triche led the Orange with 17 points. Vincent Council and Gerard Coleman paced the Friars with 17. Here are some game day nuggets:

*Happy New Year to all.

*Temple beats Duke. Georgetown nips Marquette. And now the Orange plays. Pretty solid night of college basketball.

*Baye Moussa Resta the Hippa.

*Settle down, Orange.

*Providence is a lot better than people think. The future is bright there.

*Syracuse in transition is disgustingly good.

*Triple C for the Friars: Coleman, Council and Cotton.

*SU is just one run away.

*Pretty solid play from Kadeem Batts. He can find space.

*Kris Joseph should be on some highlights tonight.

*Takeover game for Brandon Triche. Good for him. Too many people get on him in this town.

*A 2012, all-new, brand-new, MCW on the lot.

*And there is that Syracuse run.

*It felt like Syracuse turned the ball over eight times in the first half. It actually only turned the ball over eight times the entire game.

*Syracuse’s new no-center lineup looking pretty good.

*Orange has six players in double figures and outscores the Friars 51-39 in the 2nd half.

*Bryce Cotton ball.

*Second career double-double for Scoop Jardine. 10 points and 11 assists.

*Two “Fab”ulous fried eggs of Providence with a Scoop of Triche served by your Waiters. Sounds like a damn good breakfast.

*Talk about battling underneath. It didn’t matter who was in the game, all 10 guys really got after the basketball around the rim.

*Nice offensive game for Vincent Council, but six turnovers by a guard who you need to hang on to the basketball really killed Providence.

*Syracuse improves to 16-0 and hosts Marquette on Saturday.

*Providence falls to 11-5 and hosts Seton Hall on Saturday.
SU-DEPAUL GAME RECAP JANUARY 1, 2012
Syracuse topped DePaul 87-68 in Chicago, Illinois. Kris Joseph led the Orange with 22 points. Cleveland Melvin paced the Blue Demons with 23. Here are some game day nuggets:

-Welcome back to the score sheet, Kris Joseph.

-Fab Blocko.

-Cleveland Melvin Show.

-Name one team in college basketball that couldn't use C.J. Fair.

-Lay-up drills for the Orange.

-Anyone seen Brandon Young?

-This game is one where you don't care if you are turning the ball over. The game is still in control and the 'Cuse is scoring too many easy baskets.

-DePaul is really going to continue to press Syracuse and force the Orange to run? Good luck with that.

-Baye Moussa Bad Hippa.

-James Southerland with a turned ankle and leaves the game. The injury is not serious. Same with Baye Keita.

-Don't worry about Rakeem Christmas' development. He is a big man who needs time. Every other one at Syracuse has been the exact same way.

-Orange takeover in the Windy City.

-Fab. Fab. Fab.

-Close your eyes and think about Michael Carter-Williams as a senior, running the fast break and halfcourt set, with that height and ball handling ability. Frightening combination for the opposition.

-Orange basketball, tons of college hoops and loads of NFL today with a lot on the line. Pretty nice New Year's Day sports lineup. And the Winter Classic tomorrow.

-Another solid game from Brandon Triche. 10 points. Control. Great defense. But it is forgotten because this team is so damn deep.

-Syracuse is 15-0 for just the fourth time under Jim Boeheim.

-Syracuse improves to 15-0 and visits Providence on Wednesday.

-DePaul falls to 9-4 and hosts Pittsburgh on Thursday.
SU-SETON HALL GAME RECAP DECEMBER 28, 2011
-Welcome back, Winter. Welcome back, Big East basketball.

-Every time Dion Waiters touches the ball, it seems like it turns into points.

-Baye Moussa Rebounda.

-Seton Hall still in the spirit of giving.

-Jordan Theodore shooting loudly and carrying a big stick.

-MCW spending time in the garage.

-Anyone seen Herb Pope?

-Syracuse should be up by 20. They just can't hit shots.

-Fab Melo playing so well and not getting in foul trouble.

-This game is getting out of control.

-C.J. Fair is such a quiet force.

-Aaron Cosby Show.

-Double-double Melo.

-MCW back on the highway.

-The Syracuse 2-3 zone makes good to great players yesterday's news. The latest would be Herb Pope.

-Anyone seen Kris Joseph?

-The floater by Dion Waiters is simply gorgeous.

-This looks like the Harlem Globetrotters vs. Seton Hall.

-Welcome back, Mookie Jones. Nice to see you accepted an invitation to play in a basketball game.

-Pirates overboard.

-Syracuse improves to 14-0 and visits DePaul on Sunday.

-Seton Hall falls to 11-2 and hosts West Virginia on Friday.
SU-TULANE GAME RECAP DECEMBER 22, 2011
Syracuse topped Tulane 80-61 at the Carrier Dome. Dion Waiters led the Orange with 15 points. Kendall Timmons paced the Green Wave with 16. Here are some game day nuggets:

-Two disturbing scenes before the game. One: Two fans leave beer bottles outside by stadium control. When told that there were garbage cans inside, a fan replied,
"Oh, there are?"
Uh, yea buddy, you are going into a sports venue. Get a clue. Two: a production employee for some organization goes to the bathroom and doesn't wash his hands. That's how people get sick.

-Trevante Dyre straights.

-Tulane Green Wave wearing turquoise uniforms. Confusing.

-"Put Dion in."
-Fan screaming after two Scoop Jardine turnovers.

-Ricky Tarrant is the real deal. Just a freshman.

-Baye Moussa Flya.

-Taking a quick stroll in an MCW.

-Kris Joseph's body control is super underrated this year.

-Tulane not hurt by the long layoff thus far.

-Ben Cherry on top.

-If the Syracuse basketball team were an ocean, you wouldn't be able to reach the bottom.

-"Baye should have played volleyball."
-Ryan Murray, CuseConfidential.com

-Kris Joseph still getting pumped-faked put of his shoes. Stay on the floor, senior.

-3rd foul for Melo. Can he make it through the first half?

-Don't leave James Southerland open. Don't even think about it.

-The Boeheim clap is in full force on the sideline.

-Scoop's Dad never stops yelling.

-Four foul Melo.

-C.J. Fair always follows his shot.

-Another quiet night for Mookie Jones.

-Walk-on domination.

-Long trip home for the Green Wave. Time will tell if they are the team to beat in Conference USA.

-Career-high seven points for MCW.

-Syracuse improves to 13-0 and hosts Seton Hall on Wednesday.

-Tulane falls to 11-2 and visits Texas Pan-American on Saturday.
SU-BUCKNELL GAME RECAP DECEMBER 20, 2011
Syracuse topped Bucknell 80-61 at the Carrier Dome. Kris Joseph led the Orange with 17 points. Mike Muscala paced the Bison with 16. Here are some game day nuggets:

-It is still quite amazing how Syracuse just doesn’t get any #1 love. If this were Duke…

-Pay attention to how sound C.J. Fair is on the defensive side of the basketball. He doesn’t do anything overwhelming. He is a placement defender. And in the 2-3 zone, you really can’t ask for anything more.

-Steven Kaspar the friendly ghost.

-Another game where Syracuse doesn’t turn the ball over in big spots. Good sign.

-3-point land has been an awfully friendly territory as of late for Kris Joseph.

-This one getting out of control for the visitors.

-Rakeem Christmas shopping for rebounds.

-Just too many big bodies down low for the Orange. Couple that with length and athleticism and it almost isn't fair. A HUGE rebounding advantage.

-This is one of the quickest basketball games in years.

-Bucknell bashing.

-MCW the high-riser.

-Good night for you to rest, Dion Waiters. You will be needed in about a week in a big, big way.

-Anyone seen Baye Moussa Keita?

-Syracuse with another nice defensive job on another solid shooter. This time, it's Cameron Ayers.

-Bucknell played against a superior team tonight, but they will be a team to be reckoned with in the Patriot League. Just wait until they get their shooters going and their leadership takes over.

-Welcome back, walk-ons.

-Syracuse improves to 12-0 and hosts Tulane on Thursday.

-Bucknell falls to 7-5 and visits Boston University on Thursday.
Pictures taken by staff photographer John Viggiano.
SU-N.C. STATE GAME RECAP DECEMBER 17, 2011
Syracuse topped North Carolina State 88-72 at the RBC Center in Raleigh, North Carolina. Dion Waiters led the Orange with 22 points. C.J. Williams paced the Wolfpack with 25. Here are some game day nuggets.

-It's fun to be #1.

-This is one of the quicker N.C. State teams to come along in awhile.

-Wolfpack making sure that the Cuse isn't off to the races in the early going.

-This seems like some atmosphere. Imagine a campus venue for this one.

-It's getting to the point where you have to play Dion Waiters 30 minutes per game.

-James reigning 3-pointers from deep in the heart of Southerland.

-The Wolfpack is going to be good next year and possibly great in two seasons.

-You have to love how both teams are all over the rim vying for second chance points.

-23 unanswered points to end the half for the Orange. It seemed like they made every play, steal, block and shot during this time period.

-A good day to be named C.J.

-Mark Gottfried's group just doesn't give up. And now the crowd is back in it.

-ESPN analyst Hubert Davis made a good point by saying that Syracuse lost its lead in the second half because of poor shot selection. He is dead-on.

-Anyone seen Scott Wood?

-Looks like a solid contingent of Syracuse fans. Some who traveled. Some who are smart and live in the South.

-And here comes the Orange again.

-Caution: 2-3 Zone.

-Scoop, Fair, Southerland, Joseph and Waiters all finish in double figures.

-ESPN just can't get through this game without giving some information about the Bernie Fine case.

-Key stat: Syracuse had just eight turnovers. The Wolfpack had 18.

-There was the test. Syracuse was up for it.

-N.C. State falls to 5-26 all-time vs. #1 ranked teams.

-Syracuse improves to 11-0 and hosts Bucknell on Tuesday.

-North Carolina State falls to 6-4 and visits St. Bonaventure on Tuesday in Rochester.
SU-GEORGE WASHINGTON GAME RECAP DECEMBER 10, 2011
Syracuse topped George Washington 85-50 at the Carrier Dome. Dion Waiters led the Orange with 19 points. David Pellom paced the Colonials with 12. Here are some game day nuggets:

-Beast Waiters.

-George Washington's Tony Taylor is going to tryout at some NBA camps. The kid has game.

-Malik Tonkins Trucks.

-SU's active hands and pressure defense making this a tough one for the visitors.

-Atlantic 10 doing a number on the Big East today. Xavier tops Cincinnati. Temple over Villanova. GW won't win tonight, however.

-#1 Kentucky falls at Indiana. #2 Ohio State falls at Kansas. With a win, Syracuse will be #1 in the country.

-Melo Yellow.

-Dion's Dunkfest.

-Anyone seen Dwayne Smith?

-Keep running up the floor, Tim Higgins. You can do it.

-Syracuse with a nice week off before they play at N.C. State.

-If Dion Waiters just let the game come to him a little bit more....

-Great help defense all night by Baye Moussa Keita.

-Good playing time for MCW.

-"I should have had a Dome Dog."
-Syracuse fan in the expensive seats at the 11:16 mark of the second half. Uh, no you shouldn't. That is a dangerous game to play with your insides.

-Cheerleaders should not be allowed to scream cheers in blowout games. What's the point?

-The more you see MCW and Waiters, the more you think that Syracuse won't miss Scoop Jardine next year.

-Otto gets dirtier by the day.

-It's going to be an uphill battle for Mike Lonergan at GW. But he is for sure the right coach to get the Colonials back to respectability.

-Brandon Reese, please.

-Syracuse improves to 10-0 and visits North Carolina State on Saturday.

-George Washington falls to 4-5 and hosts Bradley on Thursday.

MARSHALL-SU GAME RECAP DECEMBER 6, 2011
Syracuse topped Marshall at the Carrier Dome 62-56. Dion Waiters paced the Orange with 15 points. Dennis Tinnon paced The Herd with 17. Here are some game day nuggets:

-Both teams trying to find a rhythm.

-Slop Melo.

-And for one night, we take a break from the Bernie Fine case.

-MCW back on the road.

-10:10 left, first half. Syracuse goes to the press and gets two off of a turnover. This team is so versatile.

-How exactly does Scoop Jardine's jump shot ever go in?

-Brandon's backcourt.

-SU's hands are the difference in this one. Too many deflections and Herd turnovers equaling easy baskets at the other end for the Orange.

-Jim Boeheim praised Marshall, but maybe too much.

-C.J. Fair doesn't look right.

-Long, lean, mean Orange.

-Two Scoops of turnovers, please.

-One half of bad basketball.

-Alley-Melo.

-Anyone seen Rakeem Christmas?

-The season of giving is happening now by Syracuse. As in giving the basketball away.

-This game is like a game at a fair where the ball rolls around the can and never seems to go in. Nothing will fall.

-50 years ago today, Ernie Davis won the Heisman Trophy and changed college football's top award forever.

-"We (Syracuse) don't have a leader yet."
-Orange basketball great Roosevelt Bouie on press row during the second half.

-Syracuse is in hibernation.

-Marshall Hanging Around Herd.

-Jamir Hanner Barbara.

-Fab Melo needs to get his hands up more on defense AND offense. He needs to be ready at both ends of the floor.

-Attendance: 19,817.

-Syracuse may have lost to half of the teams in the Big East tonight. But then again, every game is different.

-Just a brutal basketball game, start to finish.

-DeAndre Raising Kane.

-Still unbeaten Orange.

-Syracuse improves to 9-0 and hosts George Washington on Saturday.

-Marshall falls to 5-2 and hosts Iona on Sunday.
FLORIDA-SU GAME RECAP DECEMBER 2, 2011
Syracuse topped Florida 72-68 at the Carrier Dome. Brandon Triche paced the Orange with 20 points. Kenny Boynton led the Gators with 22. Here are some game day nuggets:

-Two Top 10 basketball teams? Yes, please.

-Anyone seen Scoop Jardine's defense?

-Welcome back, Carmelo Anthony. Your season is around the corner.

-Patric Young is one strong fellow.

-Up and down they go. This is fun stuff.

-Dunking Melo. Aggressive Melo. Active Melo. That a way, kid.

-Scoop Jardine, the circus act on a basketball court. And sometimes it works.

-Brandon Triche showing the emotion that SU fans have waited for.

-12:30 to go. Dion Waiters cuts the entire Florida defense on the break. He missed the lay-up and Keita made the follow-up. Just think about what will happen when Waiters starts finishing.

-Even Tebow Mania reaches the Carrier Dome. Plenty of #15 Gator jerseys floating around.

-Nice run to end the first half, Orange.

-That C.J. Fair short jump shot is becoming a nice weapon.

-Rattled Gators.

-Plenty of scouts here. In fact, one is bouncing back and forth from Syracuse to Olean to go see Andrew Nicholson of St. Bonaventure.

-Michael Carter-Williams enjoying his rest. As is Rakeem Christmas.

-There hasn't been one great player in this game, just exciting team basketball.

-Bradley Beal Parmesan.

-The Carrier Dome facilities make you want to puke.

-Syracuse's 3-point shooting could lose the Orange the basketball game.

-Probably safe to say there will be no Mookie Jones tonight.

-One minute, you think Syracuse has an average backcourt because of stupid turnovers. The next minute, they are a Final Four backcourt.

-Frogger Jardine.

-Another run by the home club.

-On nights like these, Syracuse, NY isn't too bad.

-Attendance: 24,459. Has the sound of 30,000.

-Billy Donovan. The guy has some energy.

-Brandon Triche down the stretch. His shining moment thus far in an Orange uniform.

-Welcome to the 1,000 point club, Scoop Jardine.

-SU made shots, limited turnovers, was smarter than UF and extended the zone late in the game. And victory was awarded to the Orange.

-Syracuse improves to 8-0 and hosts Marshall on Tuesday.

-Florida falls to 5-2 and hosts Arizona on Wednesday.
EASTERN MICHIGAN-SU GAME RECAP NOVEMBER 29, 2011
Syracuse topped Eastern Michigan 84-48 at the Carrier Dome. James Southerland led the Orange with 19. Darrell Lampley paced the Eagles with 19. Here are some game day nuggets:

*Welcome back, Rob Murphy. This wasn’t how you planned it, of course.

*Will Syracuse be distracted from the Bernie Fine allegations? So far, it looks like they are rallying around the situation, if anything.

*You go, James Southerland.

*Kris Joseph continues to be lethal from the outside when shooting and lethal from the inside when rebounding.

*Darrell Light the Lampley.

*Jim Boeheim after the game, addressing the local (quiet guys) and national (hawks) media on the Bernie Fine situation:

“It’s hard to put everything into words.” “I thought a lot today about different things. I am saddened in many ways by the events that have unfolded. I am looking forward to a time when we can talk and learn from what has happened.”

-Boeheim said he and a friend wrote this and the rest of his initial statement to the media.

Also:

“You know, I’ve been here for 36 years and I’ve never worried about anything.” “I don’t worry. I do my job. What happened on my watch, we will see. When the investigation is done, we will find out what happened on my watch. We don’t know what’s happened on my watch, right now. There is an investigation under way. There are no charges. There are no indictments. There is no grand jury. There is no action being taken. When that is done, then we will see what has happened on my watch.”

“The players will not be distracted.” “We may not win every game. If we lose a game, it’s not going to be because they’re distracted. They’re going to play. We will keep them focused.”

“There is no ball boy (s) that travel with the team and there never has been.” “We’ve had 1,500 in the 36 years I’ve been here (approximately), some girls, so it’s not exactly accurate, but in the neighborhood of 1,500. And the only actual ball boys that I know that have traveled with the team are my sons.”

*Syracuse improves to 7-0 and hosts Florida on Friday.

*Eastern Michigan falls to 4-3 and visits Colgate on Thursday.
STANFORD-SU GAME RECAP NOVEMBER 25, 2011
Syracuse topped Stanford 69-63 in the NIT Tipoff finals. Kris Joseph led the Orange with 18 points. Aaron Bright paced the Cardinal with 13. Here are some game day nuggets:

-Happy Black Friday. Don't kill anyone today, shoppers.

-Another sluggish start for the Orange. It would be nice to get rid of these poor first halves. It has been going on for some time on The Hill.

-Might we have a point guard competition between Dion Waiters and Scoop Jardine?

-Stanford is doing a nice job against the 2-3 zone. The Cardinal isn't necessarily making shots, but it is controlling the tempo with patience, patience, patience.

-It's starting to get scary how good the Waiters-Fair combo can be. Hopefully, they can stay grounded and humble because the sky is the limit.

-8,477 in attendance. Sounds like 15,000 when the SU fans go nuts.

-Aaron Light Bright.

-Better, Scoop.

-The bank is open late for Kris Joseph.

-John Gage is probably a nice, smart fellow. He has to be to get into Stanford. But what a stupid giveaway late in this one when his team had to have a basket.

-Baye Moussa Where Are Ya?

-Sometimes, you look at one stat that kept you from victory. Stanford, in this game, will look at 24 turnovers turned into 25 Orange points.

-Madison Square Orange.

-Anyone seen Josh Owens?

-Your time will come, Rakeem Christmas.

-Kris "MVP" Joseph.

-We look forward to seeing you, Rob Murphy.

-Federal agents and state police search Bernie Fine's home on the same day Syracuse wins the NIT Tipoff in NYC. What a weird deal.

-Syracuse improves to 6-0 and hosts Eastern Michigan on Tuesday.

-Stanford falls to 5-1 and hosts Pacific on Monday.
VIRGINIA TECH-SU GAME RECAP NOVEMBER 23, 2011
Syracuse topped Virginia Tech 69-58 in the NIT Tipoff semifinals. Kris Joseph led the Orange with 20 points. Jarell Eddie paced the Hokies with 17. Here are some game day nuggets:

-A basketball feast with a side of potatoes, please.

-Back to the Garden. Dome to the South.

-Anyone seen Scoop?

-Syracuse is obviously taking the first half off.

-Bad backcourt decisions for Syracuse in the early going.

-This is when Jim Boeheim trims the roster and trims the minutes of those he doesn't quite trust. Hang in MCW. Hang in Mr. Southerland.

-Dorenzo Hudson is a nice player, but not overwhelmingly dominant.

-Charging up the Orange engine.

-Seth Greenberg just can't seem to get a break at Virginia Tech.

-Feisty Melo.

-This may be a tournament year for the Hokies. They hustle big time.

-The Orange got away with one in the big city.

-Nice double-double, C.J. Fair.

-Virginia Tech falls to 3-1 and faces Oklahoma State in the NIT Tipoff consolation game.
COLGATE-SU GAME RECAP NOVEMBER 19, 2011
Syracuse topped Colgate 92-47 at the Carrier Dome. Dion Waiters led the Orange with 16 points. Pat Moore paced the Raiders with 19. Here are some game day nuggets:

*And now we see how the team responds to the Bernie Fine molestation allegations.

*Out of all the inferior opponents that Syracuse plays, Colgate should always be on the schedule. There is just too much history there.

*A managed Scoop Jardine this year. Team depth has forced Scoop to not always look for the shot first.

*Welcome back, again, Nick Pascale.

*Attendance: 21,084.

*Colgate hanging tough.

*Anyone seen Baye Moussa Keita.

*Will SU keep pressing as the season goes on?

*James Southerland’s success. How long will that last against bigger, better teams?

*Red Raiders sounds better than Raiders.

*Mitch Rolls Ryce.

*It must be pretty damn hard to get into Colgate academically.

*A relatively close game considering the circumstances just got totally out of control. Pretty scary team, the Orange is.

*Anyone seen Fab Melo?

*How deep is the Orange? Their two leading scorers, James Southerland and Dion Waiters, come off of the bench.

*Who knows at this point how the Bernie Fine situation will play out, but either way, how weird of a game must this have been for Jim Boeheim?

*And on to New York City for the Orange.

*Syracuse improves to 4-0 and plays Virginia Tech in the NIT Season Tipoff Tournament semifinals on Wednesday.

*Colgate falls to 1-2 and hosts St. Francis on Wednesday.
ALBANY-SU GAME RECAP NOVEMBER 15, 2011
Syracuse topped Albany 98-74 at the Carrier Dome. Kris Joseph and James Southerland led the Orange with 19 points each. Gerardo Suero paced Albany with 31 points. Here are some game day nuggets:

-Enough with Kris Joseph having ball handling skills, Syracuse fans.

-Don't you dare get a big time offensive rebound, Fab Melo. Jimmy B will sit you.

-Who was the genius who invented cheerleading?

-Big game James Southerland.

-Tim Higgins. The Joe Paterno of officiating. Enough already.

-Early first half. Kris Joseph flies over from the weak side, gets a rebound, and steps out of bounds not knowing it. Jim Boeheim screams at him. Not necessary from the old ball coach. The kid hustled his rear off to get there.

-Long, lean, Orange machine.

-Run like a Keita.

-Syracuse test driving an MCW.

-Gerardo Suero. Un jugador bueno.

-At least it's a quick trip home for the Great Danes.

-Alley-Triche.

-Opposing teams must be scouting Fab Melo. He has more people around him this year.

-Syracuse players look like they are on the same page from a teamwork standpoint. There are a lot more high fives and pats of encouragement on each other this year, even during non-action.

-Adrian Autry might see action in this one.

-Otto the tool.

-Baye Moussa Keita. All over the floor on this night.

-There is no reason for a game like this to go over two hours.

-Syracuse improves to 3-0 and advances to the semifinals of the NIT Tip-Off.

-Albany falls to 1-2 and will play in the third round of the NIT Tip-Off.
MANHATTAN-SU GAME RECAP NOVEMBER 14, 2011

-Otto needs a bath. He will probably get cleaned up in the ACC.

-C.J. EveryFair.

-The potential of Dion Waiters.

-Kidani Brutus the Barber Beefcake.

-The unstoppable Kris Joseph.

-If you put the Orange players' sneakers together, you'd have a rainbow.

-Welcome to the 1,000 point club Kris Joseph. And a clap from your head coach.

-Good thing Manhattan gets paid bundles to play this game. Rough stuff.

-Start Brandon Reese in the second half. This game is a clown show.

-Sly Baye.

-54 degrees at 8:08. Does that mean more December snow?

-Rakeem shopping for Christmas.

-Fab Melo should grow a fro. ABA style.

-52 points in the first half for SU. Can't buy one in the second half.

-College basketball has gotten so rough over the years. Man alive.

-Crowd clapping. Still. 14 minute mark. Waiting for that first bucket.

-Kris Joseph resting those knees on the bench.

-13:17. SU bucket. Finally. Fab Melo.

-Dion Waiters and Jim Boeheim. Not exactly Simon and Garfunkel.

-Three points. From Southerland territory.

-"Ahhhhh...F$&@."
-Kris Joseph after a missed free throw. 10:21 left second half.

-Syracuse improves to 2-0 and hosts Albany tomorrow night.

-Rakeem Christmas. Talk about a perfect SU player in the making.

-Keep working, James Southerland.

-Sherman Douglas turns down an interview. Not impressed.

-Nice defense, and socks, Dion Waiters.

-Still not Fabulous Melo.

-SU did a nice job all day covering Ram standout Chris Gaston.

-Fordham has nine New York City kids on its roster.

-Thanks for the nonsense, Shaquille O'Neill.

-People get on Brandon Triche so much, but two things you can never get on the kid for: effort and rebounding.

-Fordham's famous sports alumni: Vince Lombardi, Vin Scully, Frankie Frisch, John and Wellington Mara and P.J. Carlesimo.

-Syracuse improves to 1-0 and hosts Manhattan on Monday.

-Fordham falls to 0-1 and hosts Binghamton on Friday.
